Toasting the 50th birthday of the King of Sweden and ABEM'S new co-operation with Phoenix : (left to right) Mats Thornlof and Bjorn Jonsson of ABEM and fellow Swede Olof Forslund, CEO of MALA GeoScience P hoenix and ABEM AB of Stockholm proudly announce a technical and marketing co-operation that will greatly benefit clients of both companies
"This is an excellent example of international strategic partnering," says Bjorn lonsson, ABEM President. By combining our areas of expertise and developing a synergistic long-term relationship, everyone gains." EM )electromagnetic) functions developed by Phoenix will be installed in the ABEM Terraloc Mark b high-resolution multi-channel seismograph. The combination of EM and seismic functions provides superior interpretation and makes it possible to acquire both types of data with a single instrument during a single field visit. EM functions will initially include FasTEM IFast-turn-off transient EM), 1P (induced Polarization) and resistivity
These three functions have been successfully applied to improve interpretation in shallow bedrock and groundwater investigations (reference, "A Study of the Shallow Aquifer System in Cape May County, New Jersey, Using Resistivity and Transient Electromagnetic Soundings", Stewart Sandberg, Donald Jagel and John Groenewold).
"We're very excited about the combination of EM and seismic," says Mats Thornelof, ABEM Marketing Manager. 'Seismic can map the lithology and EM can tell us whether- or not water is present and indicate its salinity " ABEM was a Phoenix shareholder from 1999 until 1993; this latest co-operation enhances the products and services of both companies. "ABEM is very strong in groundwater exploration," says Phoenix President Lea Fox. "This co-operation expands our markets and multiplies the effectiveness of our techniques."
